An Improvised Explosive Device believed to have been planted by suspected members of Boko Haram on Sunday exploded at the Gamboru Market in Maiduguri, Borno State.
No death was recorded but four persons were critically injured in the incident which occurred barely 24 hours after 26 persons were reportedly killed   when the sect members bombed a Monday market in the city.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday said he had not directed any government agency to stop anybody, including officials of past administrations, from travelling abroad.
He said former government officials, including ministers, were entitled to their full rights and privileges under the nation’s Constitution.

Iran rejects military site inspections in nuclear deal

Iran has said that it will be “out of the question” for the UN atomic watchdog to question Iranian scientists and inspect military sites as part of a final nuclear agreement with world powers.
“Interviews with scientists are completely out of the question and so is the inspection of military sites,” senior Iranian negotiator Abbas Araghchi told state television on Saturday.

FIFA Tells Nigerian Referees To Forget Officiating At World Cup

Carlos Henriques, FIFA Referee Development Officer, has called on Nigerian referees to forget about World Cup officiating ambition for now.

Henriques gave the advice in an interview with NAN in Abuja on Friday.

He advised them to concentrate more on how to secure the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) slots.

Henriques said that the Nigerian referees needed all the support they could get to earn a World Cup slot.

“I think before you start thinking of the World Cup, you have to start thinking of the Africa Cup of Nations.

“Let’s start working, thinking to produce referees to represent Nigeria at the continental competitions; that is our main goal.

“After they start, and be part of the continental of referees, definitely the chances are there for the World Cup.

“They have to wake up like everyone else; everybody has a chance, provided they work hard. They have to work hard, and working hard is not just going out there and work hard.

“They have to work hard in all fields, especially in achieving a high level of fitness as well as the way they manage and approach players.

President Buhari & Vice President Osinbajo Declare Their Assets

President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo have declared their assets in line with provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

This was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by Buhari’s Head of Media Team, Garba Shehu.

The statement said that the Code of Conduct Bureau on Friday acknowledged the submission of the two leaders’ assets declaration forms.

The forms, the statement said, were submitted separately on May 28 and signed for by the organisation’s Chairman, Sam Saba.

The immediate past Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, on Thursday emerged as the new President of the African Development Bank.
The 55-year-old Adesina, who until yesterday (Thursday) served the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan as a minister, defeated seven other contestants from across the continent by scoring 58 per cent of the votes cast in an election held in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, where the AfDB is based.
He contested against Chadian Finance Minister, Kordje Bedoumra, who secured 32 per cent of the votes, and his counterpart from Cape Verde, Cristina Duarte, who got 10 per cent.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday in Abuja directed the central command of the military to relocate to Maiduguri, Borno, to intensify the fight against Boko Haram insurgency.

Buhari, who gave the directive in his address after his inauguration, said it was impossible to achieve victory against the insurgents if the command continued to operate from Abuja.

He said that the command center would relocate and remain in Maiduguri until the insurgents were subdued.

Blatter re-elected Fifa president

Sepp Blatter has been re-elected as president of Fifa after winning the vote against challenger Prince Ali bin al-Hussein of Jordan. 

Blatter had missed out on the required two-thirds majority in the first ballot - receiving 133 votes to his rival's 73 - but Prince Ali then took to the stage to withdraw before a second round could begin.

Delegates at the 65th Fifa Congress in Zurich opted for Blatter despite the widespread controversy that engulfed the event this week. 

Seven Fifa officials, including vice-president Jeffrey Webb, were arrested at dawn by Swiss authorities on request of the US Justice Department on Wednesday and are facing extradition to the United States on money laundering, racketeering and wire fraud charges.
