Oyo State Gov Approves Creation Of New 35 LCDAs

  The Governor of Oyo State, Sen Abiola Ajimobi has approved the creation of 35 new Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), in order to ensure development reaches all the grass roots.

This follows a motion entitled: “Need to establish Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), for effective grassroots development”, brought before the house of a*s‎embly on June 16, 2016, where the Lawmakers urged the state government to take proactive measures to establish LCDA’S to ensure that development get to every community in the state.

Disclosing the information to newsmen in the state capital on Tuesday, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, ‎Dr Gbade Ojo, said the approval will give more legal teeth to Oyo State Gazette No. 23, Vol 27 of August 13, 2002, which created the 35 LCDA’S but with a nomenclature of Local Government Areas.
Ojo who said the 35 new LCDA’S will be distributed zonally in line with both political and administrative zones of the state, listed the breakdown of the new LCDA’S as follows: Ibadan Zone 14, Ibarapa zone 2, Oyo zone 4, Ogbomoso 7, Oke-Ogun 8.
He said the governor had directed the State Commissioner of Justice to prepare enabling laws as Executive Bill to be presented to the state house of assembly so that the new LCDAs can take off.
“Between 2002 till date there has been explosion in the demography of each council area to the extent that what was gazetted in 2002 may not be sufficiently representative of the new yearning of our people.

“Thus, any council area that needs ‎more may begin to work on memorandum to justify their demands as in no distant future,” he explained.

Fulani herdsmen extend their attack to Oyo farmers

Farmers in Lagun, Iyana Offa, Offa, Atagba, Lapata and their surrounding communities in Lagelu Local Council Area of Ibadan, Oyo State, have alleged that a group of Fulani armed men attacked their communities at night, injured a guard and carted away valuables on Tuesday.

More than five farms and surrounding agrarian communities were allegedly visited in the attack, with eyewitnesses saying they also suspected that the attackers were Fulani herdsmen because of their mode of dressing.

Court dismisses Dasuki’s third application to stop trial

DASUKI

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday dismissed an application by the immediate past National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd), seeking an order discharging him of charges preferred against him and another order prohibiting the Federal Government from further prosecuting him.

Justice Adeniyi Ademola, in a ruling, held that the application lacked merit as same contained prayers that were not granted by any court.The Tuesday’s ruling is the third after two previous rulings of two other judges of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, dismissing similar applications which was filed by Dasuki in respect of two sets of separate charges preferred against him before the judges.

However, Justice Ademola in a separate ruling on Tuesday, dismissed a separate application by the Federal Government seeking protection of its 11 listed witnesses ‎whom it said were afraid of appearing to testify in the case for fear of reprisal.

He held that the prosecution failed to establish the grounds for granting such application asking for permission to shield the identities of their witnesses during trial.

House of Senate questions FIRS over N1.6 billion budget on welfare package for retirees

The house of Senate Committee on Finance, yesterday rejected the idea by the Federal Inland Revenue Service FIRS to appropriate the sum of N1.6 billion as welfare package for its new retirees in 2016.

The senate committee also complained about the N700 million budget for medical bills of staff as well as the over N16 billion put aside as salaries for staff yet to be recruited.

Speaking during a budget defence session with the FIRS, Chairman of the committee, John Enoh said

The government controlled and fixed prices for electricity and the power sector, at least until recently, continued its slide into oblivion. The naira is the next on the chopping block and the attempts to fix the price of the naira via administrative measures will slowly but surely lead to the continued stagnation of the Nigerian economy. We know because we have been here before, ironically partly under the same president.

As we have read from the articles in this series, the naira problem is not one that is unique or new to Nigeria. The question then is how we respond to what increasingly looks like a long term collapse of the price of crude oil.

N4.7bn Cars: Buhari Can’t Dictate To Us –n’assembly

President Muhammadu Buhari might be heading for a head-on collision with the National Assembly, if he does anything to interfere with the plans by the legislative arm of government to purchase exotic cars for its members. The Senate is in the process of awarding contracts for the purchase of various brands of exotic vehicles for use by its 109 members.
The vehicles, which would cost an estimated N4.7 billion, is expected to be distributed among the 109 Senators as utility vehicles to enhance their oversight operations.
