Aisha Buhari Visits Oyo State, Welcomed By Ajimobi And Wife

The Wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, will pay a two-day visit to Ibadan, Oyo State capital, beginning from Wednesday, in continuation of her nationwide free health screening programme for women, under the Future Assured Initiative

A statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Strategy, Mr. Yomi Layinka, says that the highpoint of the visit will be a free health screening programme that is expected to capture 2500 women across the 33 Local Government Areas of the state.

Osogbo – Star Yoruba movie actress, Mercy Aigbe-Gentry, Wednesday had a bruise with some armed policemen in Osogbo when the vehicle she was traveling with was impounded by them.
It was gathered that while a minor misunderstanding between the actress and the policemen that impounded her vehicle appeared settled, and her seized vehicle particulars released, some armed policemen suddenly appeared and rearrested the actress and her driver. Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that the actress who was travelling in gold-colour Honda end-of-discussion, was flagged down while driving towards Olaiya Junction in Osogbo.

Leaked numbers: Nigerians wage telephone war against senators

Nigerians, who have laid their hands on the telephone numbers of lawmakers representing them at the Senate, have declared a telephone war on their senators by bombarding their lines with unending calls  and text messages.

Those who have called senators representing their senatorial districts accused the lawmakers of poor performance and corruption.
The constituents, who decried poor representation by their senators, alleged that the lawmakers rebuffed their requests. SUNDAY PUNCH also learnt that some of the senators engaged their constituents in wars of words.

Osun govt. suspends slaughtering of animals

Osogbo – The Government of Osun on Saturday ordered the suspension of slaughtering of animal in all abattoirs and meat shops across the state as from Monday, April 25. This information is contained in a press statement issued by the Coordinating Director, Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Youth Engagement, Dr Oluwabukola Aluko.

Lagos detects ghost workers , recovers millions of Naira

The Lagos State Government has recovered N25 million being paid to ghost and dead workers at the Local Government level.
The Office of the Auditor-General for Local Governments said salaries were being paid to retirees and dead workers at the various Local Governments and Local Government Education Authorities after their terminal
dates for three months.

Five farmers weren killed and nine others injured by Boko Haram landmines in Yobe Goniri area of Gujba local government area in Yobe state today April 21st. The residents of the community returned to their homes two weeks ago and were out at their farms, clearing the grasses to beginning their farming season when these landmine explosions happened.

The owner of the house on sighting the man’s hand fiddling for the phone, quickly went for a cutlass and cut of the man’s hand. Mr. Burglar ran away into the night crying with his amputated hand. Fulani herdsmen extend their attack to Oyo farmers

Farmers in Lagun, Iyana Offa, Offa, Atagba, Lapata and their surrounding communities in Lagelu Local Council Area of Ibadan, Oyo State, have alleged that a group of Fulani armed men attacked their communities at night, injured a guard and carted away valuables on Tuesday.

More than five farms and surrounding agrarian communities were allegedly visited in the attack, with eyewitnesses saying they also suspected that the attackers were Fulani herdsmen because of their mode of dressing.

Court dismisses Dasuki’s third application to stop trial

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday dismissed an application by the immediate past National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd), seeking an order discharging him of charges preferred against him and another order prohibiting the Federal Government from further prosecuting him.

Justice Adeniyi Ademola, in a ruling, held that the application lacked merit as same contained prayers that were not granted by any court.The Tuesday’s ruling is the third after two previous rulings of two other judges of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, dismissing similar applications which was filed by Dasuki in respect of two sets of separate charges preferred against him before the judges.

However, Justice Ademola in a separate ruling on Tuesday, dismissed a separate application by the Federal Government seeking protection of its 11 listed witnesses ‎whom it said were afraid of appearing to testify in the case for fear of reprisal.

He held that the prosecution failed to establish the grounds for granting such application asking for permission to shield the identities of their witnesses during trial.

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are the winners of the election in New York. Clinton defeated Bernie Sanders and took 58 percent of the vote. Sanders received 42 percent of the vote. Donald Trump won a great victory over his rival Ted Cruz. Cruz ended in New York even behind John Kasich. Trump took over 60 percent of the vote which gives him almost all the delegates.Clinton had gains in New York, the State where she was in the Senate eight years, important. Clinton 175 delegates can add to her total. Sanders gets 106 delegates and runs it through again a bit in Clinton, but Clinton will not in halls. If Clinton include Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Delaware and Maryland wins then the nomination within reach.

House of Senate questions FIRS over N1.6 billion budget on welfare package for retirees

firs bossThe house of Senate Committee on Finance, yesterday rejected the idea by the Federal Inland Revenue Service FIRS to appropriate the sum of N1.6 billion as welfare package for its new retirees in 2016.

The senate committee also complained about the N700 million budget for medical bills of staff as well as the over N16 billion put aside as salaries for staff yet to be recruited.

Speaking during a budget defence session with the FIRS, Chairman of the committee, John Enoh said
“We will need a presentation that explains some particular cases of variation,”.

Nigeria is facing its worst economic crisis in decades as low global oil prices continue to hit public finances in the crude-exporting country.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun said on April 9 that she is forecasting a budget deficit of 2.2 trillion naira ($11 billion) in 2016, and stressed the need for fiscal discipline. The forecast comes amid increasingly negative economic indicators.

Killing Of 5 Fulani’s In Abia: Abuja DSS Lied Says Abia State Government

Anger on Sunday trailed a report by the Depart­ment of State Securi­ty (DSS) that members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) were responsible for the abduction and killing of five Fulani herdsmen in Isuik­wuato area of Abia State.In reactions, Gov­ernor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State said the report was inaccurate.The DSS had accused IPOB and MASSOB members of kill­ing the Fulani herdsmen and burying them in shallow graves in Isuikwuato.
